May challenge - mean (sea level)
The cathedral at Ely is 30 metres above MEAN sea level, making it probably the lowest altitude cathedral in the country. A beautiful feature of this building is the famous lantern shown in the photograph, known as the Lantern of the Fens and used as a landmark as it can be seen for miles around.
During a 7 mile walk to Ely, along the River Ouse, we could see the cathedral most of the time, so little chance of getting lost!
