View towards the Southern Alps from Motukarara

Woah, winter arrived this morning. After a rough night full of wind and icy hail, the hills opposite us here in the valley had a light dusting of ice. And boy could you feel it...

Still, the drive in to work was nice. The views were amazing, the pinky hues framing the snow clad mountains on the horizon beautifully.

I stopped to get this shot between Motukarara and Tai Tapu, using the telephoto to compress the foreground, bringing the Malvern Hills close to Lincoln University (the orange tower to the right of the tree in the centre, visible if you go large) and making the Southern Alps loom large.

Feel the snow....
