Signs from the past

Although I passed this yesterday walking to the training venue in Islington I didn't spot this. Possibly because it was raining and I had my head down. Today, in the morning sunlight it stood out a mile.

Today the is the Royal Northern College of Music. Presumably this was their southern 'outpost'?
