Building up a Picture

A day of reflection after a mighty fire raged through Glasgow School of Art, seemingly destroying a building which justly deserves the overused description, 'iconic'.
The bad news is that the utterly beautiful library designed to a table leg by Mackintosh is gone. The good news is that due to the almost superhuman efforts of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service , the vast majority of the building is still intact.
See statement below from Muriel Gray, who is chair of the board of the board of governors at GSA.
A fighting fund has also been launched by the art school to restore the Mack.
I took my nieces and daughter to see a packed performance of Sunshine on Leith at The Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock.
All around me, before the show started, people were talking about the fire. It's on everyone's mind in this part of Scotland.
As we came out, I took this picture of the side entrance of the Custom House, the elegant building which the George Wyllie Foundation is hoping will be a base for our Wyllieum.
He worked in the building for many years. I wonder what he would have said about the fire at the Mack?
Buildings harbour so many hidden memories.
