Quite a Journey

Popped back from our New Year accommodation in Fife to sort out a few things and pick up another friend who was joining us for a few days. It started hailing and snowing heavily about the time I was arriving in Edinburgh, and by the time I had picked N up the roads were sheet ice and the queue for the Forth Road Bridge was about 5 miles long - all the way back to Crammond.

We bailed out of the queue to get some shopping before the shops all shut and find out what the problem was, then joined it again for what turned out to be a 3 hour crawl to the bridge. Once we eventually negotiated the sheet ice (past big lorries sliding backwards down hills they were trying to climb) and got to Fife the roads were largely clear of traffic but covered in snow and ice, and very, very slippy.

We had a couple of exciting moments along the way, but generally conditions were pretty consistent and so you could make safe progress. I say "generally" because about 500m from our destination we found an especially icy corner and hit a wall... The wall bent the front wing a bit, and scraped some paint off it and the corner of the bumper, but the damage appears to be strictly cosmetic... Still, there goes my no-claims bonus.

So near but yet so far.

Gah!

Having set out from my house a little before 5pm, we eventually got to the East Neuk of Fife at just after 11pm - 6 hours later. I was very glad of my dinner and a beer when we finally arrived.
