Cairngorm

We spent the morning visiting the osprey centre at Loch Garten and then walking down through the woods to Loch MallachieMallachie. Lots of little twittery birds in the forest flitted about too fast to be photographed and mostly too fast to be identified, but it was sublimely beautiful. Then we drove back down towards Cairngorm and went for another walk at a higher elevation, on the edge of the treeline just below the ski centre.

This photo was taken en route from Garten down to Coylumbridge, at a point in the road from which the whole Cairngorm massif is suddenly laid out before you. This is just the central portion, showing the great fissure called the Lairig Ghru.
