My turn next
The calm conceals
The eagerness
For mum's return
And the preparations
To be first in line
For a tasty treat.
The garden is full of starling chicks, probably about three weeks old and newly-fledged. They look well fed and their feathers are fluffier, browner and less oily looking than the adults'. They can't feed on their own yet, even though they look big enough to be able to, so the adults are constantly back and forth with food and it's very entertaining to watch the chicks battle for position.
