Windrows
The first cutting of hay represents a calculated risk for most farmers. Will the rain stop long enough for the windrows to dry? Or, will the hay get wet and have to be sold as "less desirable" later in the year? I think this farmer got it right as it appears we won't have rain for a few days anyway. Hopefully his hay will be well protected by then.
First cutting also reminds me every year of just how busy things are about to get for teenage farm kids who would undoubtedly rather be elsewhere when their father comes looking for them to stack the bales in the barn.
