Helvellyn
Today the weather has been gorgeous. Stunning blue skies with just enough cloud to be interesting.
We decided to do Helvellyn via Striding Edge so we headed over to Patterdale. Striding edge was 'interesting' as ever. It's the third time we have done it and today's weather was definitely the best we have had.
The view from the top of Helvellyn was stunning and I took this classic shot showing Swirral edge to the left, Red tarn in the middle and Striding edge to the right. Ullswater can be seen in the distance. The views were clear across the Solway Firth into Scotland to the North and Morecambe Bay to the South. I took quite a few photos and this was my favourite although it doesn't show Striding Edge very well. It was a 5 shot panorama merged in Photoshop (hand held because I decided against carrying the weight of my tripod on the walk)
We then returned to Patterdale via Dollywagon Pike and Grisedale tarn - a total of 12 quite hard miles so we were pretty knackered when we got back to the car. On the way back to Keswick, Ullswater was mirror calm and there was even a fishing boat which looked gorgeous. It says a lot about how tired we were that I didn't stop to take any pictures!
