The may is oot

According to the old saying "Ne'er cast a clout until may is oot" you should not be casting off your winter clothes until the may (hawthorn) is flowering. I always thought it was May, with a capital 'M'. It was one of my previous bosses who put me right. Well, the may was oot today and it was a great day for casting clouts.
