Easter Sunday at the Alhambra
Last day away from home before going back to Madrid. Phew!
Today is Easter Sunday, so I decided to go to the cathedral. We went at the early time and there was no one there!! It was really disappointing. Easter is one of the greatest moments on the Christian calendar. There was only one priest and no fanfare whatsoever. After it ended, I didn't feel like the Lord had risen. It was like any other Sunday.
Well I left church in a funk so we just sat outside for a while. We pretty much tried to kill time since our visit to the Alhambra wasn't until 6:30 pm (so we thought). We went back to the hostel for a while to get out of the rain. Then finally we made our way.
We should have left earlier, but I didn't realize we could have gone earlier. The 6:30 appointment was only so that we could enter the Nazaries palace and not the other parts of the Alhambra. At any rate, the Alhambra was great. The moorish architecture was amazing and the gardens were equally impressive. As we finished our tour of the grounds we didn't have enough time to see the Alcazaba. At least we saw a little bit.
We had dinner along the river again and then went back to the hostel to collect our stuff. We said our goodbyes to Isa and the other hosts and left for the bus station. Our bus would leave at 11:30 pm. It was quite a day in Granada. I'm so happy to be going back to Madrid.
Side note, the night before a pair of Swedish women shared our room. They were both really friendly, although one was more than the other. The other woman was very kind. It was her first time in Granada (if not Spain) and we just chatted for a while. As we left this morning for church she wished us luck in getting a seat at the cathedral (little did she know, no one was there. :( ) I love those moments when people are just genuinely kind. Makes traveling so much more fun.
