Northern Exposure

Walk

We all donned our boots and headed out to walk round the headland beyond our house. If you make this pic big you might just be able to see our neighbours doing the same thing.

It's great to be able to walk out of your door and find yourself in a mini wilderness. Nowadays it's a nature reserve, boggy heathland which come Spring is a mass of wildflowers, butterflies, bees and birds. In winter most of the birds are down on the shore, whilst on the cliff top the ravens keep an eye on us and cackle on the wind.

There are signs still to be seen of times gone by. Fallen walls are witness to the land having been farmed, I assume rough grazing but maybe not. The ghosts of the second world war are nearby too. Ruined buildings and concrete circles full of rusting metal are positioned looking out to the North Sea. It's not hard to imagine the soldier left to watch the ocean, cold fingers hugging a flask of tea.

I must take myself out here more often this year. I reckon a monthly blip would be a good enough reason. Might be able to convince someone to come with me for another view.
