Wild garlic at Elleray Wood, Windermere
This morning's walk took us again to the top of Orrest Head, this time by a different route. We followed a footpath through these woods to a lonely lane before turning right and cutting up to the summit from the north. Again, a good view from the summit, a little hazy but a warm sun on our backs as we looked north away up the lake. A truly special spot is the summit of Orrest Head.
We came down though a permissive footpath on National Trust land. What a job this organisation does for our culture and environment, from my point of view I am particularly indebted to the Trust for their efforts to protect the natural world. Long may they continue.
This afternoon we looked at a house in Keswick. Apparently the vendors had accepted an offer half an hour before we got there. But it didn't matter, we didn't like the place. Unchanged for over 40 years it would have cost many thousands of pounds to renovate on top of the price.
A spot of lunch at the Honey Bee café followed, with the obligatory scone. One that flattered to deceive. Great physical appearance, spoilt by the overall taste. (Just like yesterday's). Then we spent some time separately in Keswick looking at shops and the like.
Then we drove to the lakeshore and enjoyed a good walk along the lake to Friars Crag coming back through the woods. Quite good going for a wheelchair.
The weather had been good all day, if a little cloudy at times, it cleared up as we left Keswick and we thought we were in for a lovely evening but just after we arrived in Windermere, the heaven's opened as a thunderstorm burst overhead and torrential rain fell for about 20 minutes. It's gone now and a mist is hanging over the lake. It's 9.00pm just gone and we're just off the lakeshore to enjoy the evening.
