Where have all the flowers gone......?
Every so often these beautiful delicate poppies come out in the fields. One year the field of oilseed rape was dotted with them and looked stunning, bright yellow with these little dashes of red. The flowers are so delicate the petals fall as soon as you look at them, I think this was the last one standing!
I'm rather lucky, I think. I live in a bustling city, yet work in a field in the middle of nowhere. The tenant farmer tills several fields around the workshop, and there is a wealth of wildlife to entertain us, plenty of pheasants and grouse, swallows nesting, wagtails, a skylark, woodpeckers (unseen) a cheeky little wren, squirrels, sparrow hawks, merlins, a dozen or so buzzards, the occasional barn owl and deer, rabbits and fat rats, and the cheeky rooks who stole my chicken leg after my lunch today.
Sounds like bliss but it can be a desolate place!
