Sad

Despite all our efforts to make the house and garden safe for wildlife, we have occasional casualties.
All the garden-facing windows have RSPB raptor profiles on them to discourage birds from flying into the glass and suffering injury.
Sadly, and once a year - usually in spring or early summer- there is a fatality, in this case a young blackbird not long fledged.
What saddens me is all the effort the adults will have put into selecting a suitable and safe spot, building a nest there, laying and hatching eggs, feeding and protecting fledgelings, only to have one go off and fly into our rear window and die as a result.
Big sigh.
Now buried with due reverence and care deep in our veggie plot and eventually to be recycled.
