Hugglescote

I went to Coalville to do some shopping this morning and decided to drive home the long way and I passed through Hugglescote well what a smart town marker they have but I do not know the significance of having a polar bear as a town marker cos I don't think there are a lot of polar bears in those parts..LOL

A local feature is the statue of the Hugglescote Bear which was unveiled in 2008. This represents an old local folklore tale of how Hugglescote got its name. Many years ago there were brown bears in England. One day local villager named Huggle was being chased by one of these bears, fleeing for his life. So he could go faster, he took off his coat and the bear hugged that instead of him- Huggle‘s Coat.
