The lion and the duck

I live near a beautiful Paris square with a large fountain in the middle. Its proud lions had an unexpected visit: a male duck probably coming from a lake nearby in the Bois de Vincennes. It looks as if he has drank all the water! I wonder what Jean de la Fontaine, a friend of Fouquet, would have made of this. La Fontaine (which means "the fountain") who reappropriated Aesop's fables to critique his 17th century regime and society. Lions usually represent kings, in his case, Louis the XIVth (see previous posts).
