Frozen

This wren was just about to take off when it froze in this position - I had noticed something in the leaves and looked up to see a red tailed hawk land in the tree right above us. He took off when he noticed me and was eventually chased off by a mob of catbirds.
Yesterday I came out of the garage/outbuilding to find a red tailed hawk trying to grab a squirrel - he was so close I could have jumped up and swatted him. I'm not sure which one of us was more surprised. I love hawks, but I am not feeding them (unless they stick to voles, which we seem to be overrun with).
