Luscious sunshine in Shetland.

Goodness, we've been lucky.

We arrived in Lerwick, the Shetland Isles, around 12 and it was warm, T-shirt weather, with glorious sunshine. The arrival was stunning and we were greeted by young ladies playing the Shetland fiddle.

Our luck continued. I chose to go to the southernmost part of mainland Shetland, to the prehistoric site of Jarlshof. This is NOT reconstructed. The Iron Age and earlier buildings were protected by sand and they've sensitively preserved the layout and stone building with grass. Marvellous.

On the way we stopped overlooking a bay where these fabulous seals were swimming and basking (amazing good fortune)

Add to that baby Shetland ponies (one only a day old), fabulous sheep, fascinating scenery. And such wonderfully welcoming people.

But for all our good fortune, we couldn't be in any doubt about how difficult life can be at 60 degrees.

Fabulous cruise so far.

And it's on to Heimaey, Iceland, arriving the day after tomorrow.

Thank you for all the super comments on my trip
