St Martin’s Gardens

…Camden

A haven from the madness of Camden Town, this fair-sized square garden is hidden on three sides by the fronts of buildings. I’d passed a small opening to the garden on Pratt Street once before and had assumed it was a private garden for the residents of a block of flats. Today I decided to have a quick look and stayed and relaxed for half an hour in the summer sun. It’s a Camden Council public park. It started life in 1805 as a burial ground for St Martins-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square and was converted for use as a public garden in the 1880s.
