The Long and Winding Road Kiltwalk Style

Two weeks today I will be walking 26 miles!! Why ???

I am really lucky to be a small part of an amazing charity. The Kiltwalk is a Scottish charity that raises money for "Oor Kids" ! Throughout the year they have walks in different parts of Scotland. All money raised goes to different childrens charities all over Scotland. They have walks in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Speyside, Dundee and Aberdeen!! They have different lengths ranging from Wee walks about 8 miles, to Half walks 13 and then the 26 mile one!

Last September I did the 26 mile Aberdeen and Deeside Kiltwalk. I didn't think I could but I did. Achieving that was awesome. I raised lots of money but I also met some fantastic people that I stay in touch with.

Being part of The Kitwalk family is an honour and for me walking 26 miles is nothing compared to what some children and their families have to go through.

So here I am today with Mr G accompanying me. We are both doing the Dundee Kiltwalk in October. I am also doing the Speyside half one with Aimee!! We did just over 10.5 miles. We had some laughs along the way… (and some moans) I even thought a bull was going to come after us. Amazing how you speed up as it angrily kicked at the ground and bellowed at us while giving us the evils!! Not a happy chap!! (we were walking along a road… not in the field might I add)!!!

So when I walk in 2 weeks time I am raising money for "Oor Kids" and also for the Windmills Cafe in Motherwell. A plea on social media looking for team members for Aberdeen was too good an offer to let go…. Windmills Cafe offers high quality training and work experience to young people with learning difficulties. Ashley who set up Team Windmills, has a brother called Ross, who went through major surgery when he was just born to connect his stomach to his bowel. He was in Yorkhill hospital for 6 weeks after he was born. He went home from hospital with a feeding tube in his nose… At the age of 16 he had a stroke. He is now on the mend with the help of Windmills Cafe and a fantastic family.

Anyone doing the Kiltwalk, wether it is the wee one, half or the full one if you fancy joining Ashleys Team Windmills give me a shout!!
