Mother's out for a drink....

...the only problem was that the kids were left behind.

The cows had gone to make use of the Abreuvoir a facility I have mentioned before and which I had first seen in Guernsey. It allows animals access to drinking water from a field.

But the calves had got spooked by my presence, and therefore had retreated back into the field. My path would have taken me between the mothers and their bairns, and that is always a very risky strategy. So I had a bit of a wait until the drinkers went back to scoop up their families.

Somewhere, Lord Peter Wimsey says "God might have made an animal stupider than a sheep, but I doubt it. Unless it was a cow!" I don't entirely agree.
