Oldest Church........
and school building in Australia.
We've had a wonderful day today. It was one of those days when we drove off into the wide blue yonder without any major plans. We did know however that we would be driving back to Wombat Hollow from the Central Coast and we didn't want to drive on a Motorway!!
Well we meandered along the winding country road along the Hawkesbury River until we reached Wisemans Ferry where in fact we crossed the river on a Car Ferry, our first for the day! From here we headed for Blackheath via Kurrajong and the huge bonus was to come across one of Australia's most historic churches and School Buildings.
It was such a surprise, almost out of nowhere, here was the dearest little church (established in 1809) and the old school house which now serves wonderful Devonshire Teas. It was fascinating wandering through the graveyard to see headstones dating way back to the early 1800's.
If you're interested in reading more about the Ebenezer Church, here is a link to their web page. Isn't it wonderful that these days we can so easily access information. It's one of the reasons that I just love the internet.
I'm sorry to have teased my blipper friends yesterday, but do you know how hard it is to keep a secret!!! Well this one was important and I can tell you that when I'm given the all clear you will be the first to know.
