Blue tail

What a beautiful day! It has been warm and sunny, and the air has been literally 'buzzing'!
I have been out and about to quite a few locations looking for different things, but as always I think the thing that charmed me most were the beautiful, delicate but oh so stunning Damselflies.
I saw 4 species today, the Large red damselfly, the Azure damselfly, and the Blue tailed damselfly all common in this area and across most of the UK. I also saw quite a few teneral White legged damselflies, not such a common species, but plentiful in this location.
Having looked at all my shots from today, I decided in the end to blip this one of a Blue tailed damselfly, not because it is particularly special but because the bi-coloured pterostigma (the darker pigmented spot on the leading edge of dragonfly and damselfly wings) can be clearly seen. This bi-coloured pterostigma is a good identification point for this species.
The Blue-tailed damselfly Ischnura elegans is one of the commonest UK species. It is on the wing between may and september and can be found around almost any waterbody, and in grassland and woodland.
Off to Brinsbury agricultural college tomorrow to help on the Horsham Natural History Society stand...so maybe some good blips!
