Evening light on Marlborough College
Built in the early years of the eighteenth century for the Duke of Somerset, this building - the current public face of Marlborough College - became in 1751 the Castle Inn which in its heyday was one of the finest coaching inns on the Bath road.
With the event of the railway, the prosperity of the coaching era died swiftly....
and in 1843, it was reopened as Marlborough College.
One hundred and seventy one years later, though much has changed since educationally, the beauty and impact of the buildings remain un-diminshed and the heart and ethos of the College is inspirationally strong.
H and I headed into College tonight for an invitation BBQ at New Court, our previous home. I took this as we headed into Court.....
