Cup Final - the teams come out.
Don't imagine this will be the only blip from Celtic Park today, although I'm guessing that Perth-based blippers will have some celebratory pictures after the trophy was presented! Yes, my personal cup final hoodoo continued as St Johnstone won 2-0 against my team, Dundee United. St Johnstone's first trophy in a 130-year history. And that's three United Scottish Cup Finals, a United UEFA Cup Final and even a Scottish League Cup Final when I was supporting Hibs against Aberdeen after winning a couple of tickets to the game in a competition. All defeats for the team I was supporting. I really should think twice about going!
We had our chances this afternoon, hitting the post in the first half and the bar in the second half, but they scored a goal on the stroke of half-time when our keeper flapped and missed at a corner and then finished us off a few minutes from time when a ball got deflected into the box, unluckily or luckily depending on your point of view, and their striker reacted quicker than our goalie when they both ended up on the ground. Truth be told most of our players didn't perform to their potential - the crisp passing and incisive movement that has been a feature of United's best wins this season was only fleetingly evident - and in contrast most of the St Johnstone players performed really well. Perhaps with the exception of their talisman Stevie May who didn't quite live up to his own high standards and failed to score. Especially as his shirt had the date of the cup final on it - May 17 - you'd think he was destined to get the winner. Not that he'll mind with a cupwinner's medal.
Well done to the Saints - through gritted teeth.
After another football-related blip I thought I'd link to all my Dundee United blips, several of them referring to historical events!
