Liquid Ambar
Liquidambar styraciflua, commonly called the American sweetgum, is a deciduous tree native to North and Central America. It's a popular ornamental tree in temperate climates - in South Africa too.
The genus name Liquidambar was first given by Linnaeus in 1753 from the Latin 'liquidus', or fluid, and the Arabic 'ambar', or amber - alluding to the fragrant gum which exudes from the tree. Nice story.
