Second and top tarmac layer being laid on the Southbound carriageway of the Kessock Bridge (by a Swiss company). High precision, and high quality stuff. They spent ages setting up rails for the machinery to run on, and lay the required thickness.

Hopefully it will last as long as the previous surface ~30 years. And supposedly that only needing patching once, on the higher stress curved part of the bridge. It ain't cheap, but it's reliable and long-lived, without the need for much maintenance. Just ask anyone that commutes over the Forth Road Bridge about their experience with its surface...

There are of course other works that have to be carried out on the bridge(s), so there will be contra-flows and lane restrictions at those times. Like anything, it does have to be looked after. Won't be long now until they're finished. According to some of the workers that will be adjusting the supporting cable tensions, they are about six weeks ahead of last year.

You've been spared a Blip of this week's creations at the "Buns & Bread" night-class. Well, for now. Finally made my first Scones. Cheese variety too. And darned good they were - especially as they were still warm after the cycle home. Numerous previous attempts at home turned out like rock cakes. I'd given up trying.

The other thing made tonight, and another favourite - Carrot Cake. Haven't tried to make it before, and haven't sampled it yet. A couple of large warm scones were too tempting, and more than enough. The bowl remnants tasted great. Just don't tell the Chef about that, "My finger just slipped Miss... into the bowl... and then my mouth. It was an accident. Honest..." (not).
