Beer Day
I wish I had more time to write about today, because we went to a new area of Brugge and I'd like to describe our adventures in detail, but it's nearly 11 p.m. and we've only been back to our holiday flat for about an hour.
This list will give you the highlights:
-- Nice breakfast at a cafe near our flat.
-- A visit to one of Brugge's destination museums (I enjoyed it, Phil not so much).
-- Lots of walking, this time to the northeast quadrant of Brugge.
-- Folklore Museum cafe closed; museum ticket seller churlish and off-putting, the first time this has happened, so we bagged visiting the museum.
-- Impromptu visit to a big windmill on the edge of town -- quite interesting.
-- Neighborhood cafe near the windmill a good find for a very late lunch of cheeses, charcuterie, olives, breads, and the like; I had beer #1.
-- More walking, this time to a mellow bistro/cafe (today's blip), where over a couple of hours I imbibed beers #2 and #3 -- the local "Zot" ("fool") from De Halve Maan (Half Moon) Brewery, very refreshing -- and we had hearty salads for supper.
-- More walking, heading for home, with a longish stop at a quiet hotel bar with an extensive beer list, where I had a brilliant Belgian sour beer made from strawberries (#4).
Our "landlady" arrived home just as we did, so we had a chat, as we won't see her again before we leave. The first train of three that we will take on Sunday to the Languedoc leaves Brugge at 5:26 a.m., so we will have a cab at our door at 4:45 a.m. and will set our alarm clock for 3:45 a.m. It's going to be another very long day, and I doubt that I'll blip on Sunday, or be able to do any commenting -- or any commenting tonight, either, unfortunately.
All in all, a very fine day today, full of sunshine and new sights!
(Phil's having problems posting his blips on his iPad, but managed to get a photo up for today just now by using his iPhone. It's frustrating to have technical problems while on vacation!)
