High wire?
Rubbish weather day, so we have walked up into the heart of the Achnashellach hills for a reconnaissance mission. There are some of the country's remotest hills up here so we wanted to check the trail for bikability (tick), check the river crossings (tick - sort of) and to see the lie of the land (tick). Up above us the wind howls across the tops but we were quite sheltered down in the glen.
This is the upper river crossing - some call it a bridge, but it is just two wires across the torrent. Of course, the torrent is not in spate at the moment, so you can choose to walk through it as G has done, but E was keen on championing the high wire. This bridge was a little nicer on the hands with a plastic tube over the top wire. The lower bridge was far less comfortable (not advised to tackle without gloves) and the foot wire is only held on with two tiny screw wire clamps. With a drop of several feet to the water, I didn't much like the look or feel of it.
