Bats or Birds?

Saw these boxes in some of the trees at Saltram Park today, and wondered if they were nesting boxes for a particular bird, or even for bats? Anyone know??
Been a gorgeous day today, and if you look into Vectensian's journal you will see that we came across a Magpie catching his tea!!
