Along the Scoundrels' Road

This very wintry scene shows beech trees standing on either side of a cycle track along the Schelmseweg near Arnhem, Holland. Schelmseweg translates as Scoundrels' Road. It was the route, taken by many a villain in years gone by as he was taken to the Galgenberg, Gallows' Hill, where he would be hung. Nowadays, the Galgenberg is occupied by a cemetery.
