Decay and Rejuvenation

Think Hemlock forest beside a pristine lake,
blooming mountain laurel,
thick banks of ferns,
beautiful glowing light.

The decaying birch logs are providing nutrient for the fungi, moss and new growth on the forest floor.

All the while that I'm trying to hold still and not breathe while shooting this hand- held macro, I'm being devoured by deerflies. I still have a suppurating ulcer on my left arm as a reminder.
