A bit crumpled

Why should my ticket for Gardeners' Question Time be a bit crumpled? Well, we were invited to write down a question, fold it and hand it in. The pieces of paper disappeared but we were then told that if our question had been chosen our names would be called and we would be moved to the front. If you listen to the programme this must be why all the questioners sound as if they are near each other - we were, fairly.
