Tulip Poplar
A while ago I threatened to post a photo of a tulip poplar, and I'm making good on that threat today. They are stunning flowers, but often hard to see, as the trees can grow up to 30m tall. There's a strange contrast between the massive, hardy tree and its delicate blossoms. This one happens to be right by a bridge, so these flowers are visible. Now imagine a whole tree (here's a little taste) covered in these flowers.
p.s. first spotted with AP and joep in Hyde Park, NY, in May 2007.
