Progress and Innovation!!!
At sea today so not much to do but work. Thought I'd add this photo to give you an idea off how much the Cruise industry has progressed in the last 40 years.
The smaller ship is the size of the average size of a ship which carried passengers to and from Alaska in 1962. It carried around 6,500 passengers a year to the Beauty of Alaska. Now the bigger ship is the size of an average ship today, which carries an average of 2,500 passengers a cruise. Add that to the fact, when we dock in an Alaskan port, we are there with between 3 and 6 other ships on that particular day, with the same amount every day of the week. So there could be as many as 15,000 tourists in port on any given day.
Thats quite a difference and no surprise that Tourism(I am assuming) is Alaska's biggest Industry these days, now there is no longer a Gold Rush to contend with.
