Augustines

Headed through to Edinburgh to the Liquid Rooms with Dougie to see Augustines. Had previously seen them inGlasgow as We Are Augustines a couple of years ago at The Arches and they were very good. this time was a bit different. They were absolutely amazing. With Dougie and I ensconced down the front they came on, had technical difficulties with the bass, McCarthy's throat was fucked and then they somehow turn a potential train wreck into an amazing gig. Craft? charisma? hard work? who knows but the audience were treated to a fabulous show.

After they went off they appeared on the Liquid Rooms minstrel gallery and played a couple of songs unamplified, what happened after that I've never seen in 34 years of going to gigs. I've seen people from bands appear in the crowd before; Peter Gabriel crowd surfing in 83, Matt Berninger take a cable drum of wire through the Academy in Glasgow singing Mr.November, Tim Booth walk through the crowd to come on at the SECC but I've never seen a band come through the crowd and start playing acoustically, but there they were 2 feet from me singing another six or seven songs.

As a band I hope they make it big but a wee part of me would be sad as I'd never see them in a wee gig again and I'd certainly not be 2 feeet from Billy McCarthy and Eric Sanderson.
