Pollution
I have been here in Liuzhou, Chine for over a month now. I remember on an earlier blip, answering a comment, saying that it wasn’t pollution, but early morning mist. Well that was very naïve, as I have not seen a clear sky yet.
Finally today, I decided to Google ‘Liuzhou pollution’ and found this site. It continually updates (real time), but at the time of writing, the AQI number was 168. If you scroll down to the bottom, you will find a key to the numbers and 151 – 200 is ‘unhealthy’, it goes on, ‘Everyone may begin to experience health effects; members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects’.
I am actually quite surprised, as the traffic seems busy but healthier than I am used to seeing in Bandung. I don’t see any old bangers billowing pollution out. Also, the same with the bikes. In fact, I would say 90% of the bikes are electric, I will write a blip about the bikes again.
This is an industrial nation, but I don’t see rows of chimneys on the horizon pumping out pollution either. Well, it is coming from somewhere and it is serious! Compared to Indonesia, at least the Chinese government are doing something about it, with all the electric bikes, and allowing the AQI website, or am I being naïve again!
This image also shocked me, as I didn’t realize how bad my sensor was. Now I need to find a quality camera shop, as I won’t be cleaning this myself.
