Resolutions
Happy New Year!
Last year I wrote my resolutions on the edges of my bookshelves. They were as follows:
1) Be more like Maude.
2) Put clean clothes AWAY when they come out of the laundry.
3) Spend less time online, more time outside.
4) Make new friends, but keep the old.
5) Write more poetry, play more guitar.
6) Don't procrastinate. The time is now, the walrus said.
Today, I evaluated. 2 and 5 didn't really happen, and 6 didn't since I'm supposed to be packing for San Francisco right now. I'm very happy about 3 - my friend Marcelle encouraged me to go on midnight walks with her, and now they're one of my favorite things in the world. I did well at the first part of 4, but unfortunately not the second - keeping in touch is a lot harder than I thought. And #1, probably the most important (based on the movie Harold & Maude), is unquantifiable. All I can say is that I've tried.
Tomorrow I'm heading to the other side of the country. 2009 was a good one, but I have a feeling that 2010 is going to be the best yet.
A Quote for the New Year:
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
