Maple Leaves

I noticed a Sycamore Maple growing in the grounds at Bowood recently, and recognised it from the leaves as I had one in my own garden. I'd planted it myself and quite possibly bought it at Bowood Garden Centre, now long gone, unfortunately.

Theirs is considerably more mature than mine, but is tucked away among other kinds of maples, whereas mine is a centrepiece of my tiny garden.

This is my own 'acer pseudoplatanus Brilliantissima', as seen from my study window.

These were another act I saw a number of times in the sixties, notably at Mothers in Erdington, usually introduced by John Peel, who used to drive them to gigs. Marc Bolan was an extremely charismatic performer and the duo sounded quite unlike anything else, before or since, and also unlike Bolan's previous band, John's Children.
This was their first single. I must have first heard it on John Peel's Top Gear programme, in low quality medium wave, fading in and out. Some years later I saw T Rex (as they had become) in Wolverhampton, with a very different audience, mostly "teenyboppers". He was playing a massive electric guitar that seemed to be overpowering him, especially on workouts like Elemental Child, but he was still great.
