Bear in the town

I love coming across whimsical things around town, like this bear in a planter! And no, I didn't set this up - just happened upon it like this stuffy I spotted in a piece of driftwood on the beach. Today was such a warm day that the bear could have removed the scarf.
I've lived in places where bears were common and we'd see them most days. Not here though. Occasionally a real bear does appear on this island, swimming over from Vancouver Island through the narrows. Sometimes a cougar will show up as well.
Sat out on the porch for a few hours visiting with a friend. Lovely to watch the hummers, pigeons, robins, towhees, blackbirds, flickers and all the other birds that live here with us. Yesterday we watched a pair of flickers dancing. Hadn't seen that before! The colours and displays were fascinating.
