A concrete love affair

Berwick Upon Tweed's Royal Tweed Bridge

This lovely concrete bridge opened in 1928, forming part of The Great North Road, the A1, linking London and Edinburgh. It has one of the longest single spans made of concrete in the UK and is thankfully Grade II* listed. Coincidentally 1928 is the same year the new Tyne Bridge opened in Newcastle Upon Tyne, about 60 miles to the south of Berwck, also forming part of same the vintage of Great North Road.

Just one of several fantastic spots we stopped at on our long journey south from Scotland. Coming down the east coast we stopped at Queensferry, Berwick, Alnmouth and Newcastle. Also stopped briefly at a few other interesting structures along the way. I shot a whole roll of slide film in four days, it's been a great trip!
