Western Springs Lake

A late afternoon run to the lake seeking birds, and got there as the sun was setting behind the trees. I liked this best, especially as I managed to not get quite the right focus with any of the bird shots, in part because of the low light, and my eyes not getting to quite right.

Update from yesterday and this morning. Everything was fine last evening, with no more injuries suffered. S and I enjoyed a pleasant meal and so to bed. At 0100 am I struggled into consciousness as I became aware that her mobile was ringing. I'd slept through mine, which had woken S, but too late to answer it. It was daughter C asking me to go down to sit with the boys while she took her 11 year old dog to the emergency vet.

Of course I went, and S went with C, who had guessed the problem having had her first dog die of gastric torsion when she was quite young. Diagnosis confirmed, there was really no choice (the vet advised that surgery for an old dog was rarely successful) and the vet helped the dog out of pain and to die comfortably. C was brave in making the decision, and devastated by the loss of her dog. This morning (when they were told) the boys were also very upset.

When I got home from work, Mr H gave me long hugs for his comfort; he is a very sensitive lad. As well as his own sadness he feels for his mother.
