The Changers

Today has been gloomy, grey and damp and not a drop of sunshine in the city. Someone asked about how the Knox Church rebuild/ repair was coming along. I just about blipped it yesterday as I took a number of shots when passing by. Here is the blip I did the other week so thought I would do something different today.. still a collage but may have more interest.

The photo on the top left was taken on the day of the September 4, 2010 earthquake. This earthquake known as the Darfield earthquake and struck the South Island of New Zealand with a moment magnitude of 7.1 at 4:35 a.m. local time on 4 September. The earthquake's epicentre was 40 kilometres (25 mi) west of Christchurch, near the town of Darfield. The hypocentre was at a shallow depth of 10 km. Because of the distance away from the city it wasn't as damaging as the February 22, 2011 one.

After the September earthquake the Knox Church was still repairable. When the February 22, 2011 hit it was a different story. The photo in the bottom right was taken about a hour after the February Earthquake. Cars were bumper to bumper just not going anywhere and people were abandoning their cars and trying to walk home or to find loved ones. For more information on the earthquakes.

The shots top right and bottom left were taken today and they have made a lot of progress in the past few weeks. Here is a shot shot I took last August before the work started.
