Masouleh

This spectacular village is in the north of Iran. It is nestled at the head of a valley in the Alborz mountains and the houses are built into the mountainside. The yard of the building above is the roof of the building below and is interconnected by steep narrow passageways.

We were there as guests of a filmmaker friend who was showing several of the documentaries that he had made about the people of Masouleh. It was a very select screening in one of the tea shops where we sat cheek by jowl with some of the people featured in the films.
