Never Say Die

Our Japanese Acer, planted in a tub on the patio, has struggled for almost 4 years to enjoy itself, but finally this spring it seems to be saying that it has adapted to its surroundings by producing flowers which have developed these beautiful little propeller like seed heads.

Possibly it's fertility owes much to my being more assiduous with its watering. Because the leaves hate cold winds, we have positioned it underneath a balcony which means it has to rely on my somewhat erratic use of the watering can.

At one time during the winter we did think it had died, so dormant did it seem and perhaps it heard us muttering about consigning it to the dust bin of failed gardening projects and decided to up its game.

Whatever reason, better watering or mild winter, it has exceeded our expectations for its survival and merits my blip of the day.
