Duck Wars!

Ollie, Scratch and I were out along the beach this afternoon and heard a great commotion which turned out to be a group of shelduck having some sort of altercation!

As the males and females are identical is was tricky to work out what was happening, but there was a lot of driving ones away and rounding up of others! They are already nesting, they seem to use old rabbit burrows in the grass bank on the shore, so it seems unlikely that they are still pairing up, perhaps it's a territorial dispute!

Damp and dreary sort of day so I decided to try another recipe from my wonderful scone book. Made honey and mustard ones, delicious with creamy blue goats' cheese - but not a morsel for the tubby dog!
