Dozy sheep

As we walked past a group of sheep this morning, they showed little sign of moving away. I got several shots with my compact camera while they were still looking towards me. It was early, and they were comfortably settled. By the time we walked past them again on our way back down the hill, they were actively grazing, and turned away promptly as we approached.

I find sheep good models for wild animals. They are wary of humans, but tolerant, and finding out exactly how tolerant, is very useful to a photographer. So I hope that practicing on domestic sheep, I'll make fewer mistakes when photographing wild animals elsewhere.

Interestingly (but perhaps not surprisingly) the sheep are far less tolerant of my big camera with the long lens than the compact.
