Baby balsam root

Playing about with the macro in my little camera. The hillsides around here are alive with yellow with these wild sunflowers. They don't live long and by the end of June, the whole plant will have shriveled up and died and we'll be back to dull dried up grass in the valley. Just learned that the whole plant is edible and the sap has antiseptic qualities when rubbed on wounds. Good to know when Angus and I are out there tromping about avoiding deer, coyotes and bears!
