Setting Out

Today was the Yeldall Walk for Freedom 2014 Thames Park Challenge. Over 60 walkers took part, most walking 26 miles between Windsor and Wargrave and some choosing to do 12 miles between Marlow and Wargrave. The walkers were raising money for Yeldall Manor, a Drug and Alcohol Rehab centre near Wargrave in Berkshire.

I wasn't one of the walkers but I was one of the 'Marshals', helping to make sure that everyone showed up at the checkpoints in Maidenhead, Marlow, Aston and Shiplake. At the last checkpoint, Shiplake Lock, the walkers were ferried across the Thames on a small boat.

This group picture includes most of the walkers setting out on the longer version of the walk, at about 8am. The day included plenty of sunshine but unfortunately some heavy downpours and strong winds as well. Not so pleasant for the walkers, but no one got hurt and we didn't lose anyone (permanently!). The last walkers finished off at just before 8pm, but the first to finish was also the oldest walker, at age 72! He is the one in the picture with the long red jacket and the leather hat.

It was a great and very successful day! As a Trustee of this charity/ministry, I was very happy to help as part of the support team, and am so very thankful for all those who did the hard work of actually walking and fund raising! I hope they all enjoy a good hot bath and a deep nights sleep tonight!
